Once a child is determined to be eligible for the Prevention Program, a regional center service coordinator is assigned. In collaboration with the parent(s) and family, the service coordinator will prepare a written Prevention Program Plan (PPP). A copy of the PPP will be given to the parent(s) within 60 days of the initial referral to the Prevention Program. The PPP will include details of the child’s developmental status and health. When appropriate, it will also include referrals to specific community and educational resources in Orange County.
On an ongoing basis, the service coordinator will monitor the child’s development, provide guidance in early childhood development and assist the family to identify and navigate resources in the community. The family can expect their service coordinator to be in contact with them within 90 days after the initial PPP and every six months thereafter.
For help with the child’s program, the service coordinator will access regional center clinical experts who will also provide guidance on generic resources that may be appropriate to aid in the child’s development. (Generic resources are public services available to the general public, typically at low or no cost.)
Should a child begin to exhibit developmental delays, he or she will be referred for evaluation. The purpose of the evaluation will be an eligibility review to determine if the child qualifies for either Early Start or Lanterman Act services.
