Special Ed Advocacy Print

When a person with developmental disabilities is a child, many of the services they receive are provided through the public schools. When families have difficulty with schools, they can receive assistance through special education advocacy programs that RCOC funds in partnership with area law schools.

Through these programs, law students under the supervision of expert attorneys work with RCOC parents to help empower them by teaching them about special education law, as well as their rights and responsibilities under the law. The goal is to equip parents with the knowledge and skills they need to be effective advocates, no matter what their educational or cultural background.

Parents who think they could benefit from special education advocacy services should contact their service coordinator.
